1. Introduction Arequipa

Arequipa, the White City, is the second largest city in Peru with its 400,000 inhabitants. It is surrounded by high mountain peaks (El Misti, 5,821 mts, Chachani 6,075 mts and Pichu Pichu 5,425 mts) and is located at an altitude of 2,300 mts above sea level. Arequipa has a nice climate, the sun is almost always shining. In the daytime, the temperature will not rise above 25°C and in the evening it is cooling down quickly.

Arequipa is a nice city to get used to the altitude. Your second day in Arequipa you will be picked up in the morning to visit the nice spots in the neighbourhood of Arequipa. In the afternoon you will have some time to yourself. The Santa Catalina convent and the mummy Juanita are definitely worth visiting.

In Arequipa we have included a 2-day excursion to the Colca Canyon and Cruz del Condor.

Maybe at the end of you stay in Arequipa you will agree with the Quechua words "Ari que pay" meaning "yes, I want to stay".

Arequipa is the home of LTAE. We will pick you up from the bus station and accompany you to your hotel. In the afternoon we will invite you for a drink on the Plaza the Armas.

The Colca tour is a two-day trip to the Colca Canyon and the Cruz del Condor. We leave for Chivay where we will arrive in the early afternoon. Here we can visit volcanic hot water springs and take a bath.

Early the next morning we will go from Chivay to Cruz del Condor via the Colca Canyon.

The Colca Canyon is the canyon of the Rio Colca, a river that has its origin at 5000 meters in the Andes and which goes via a 3000 meters deep canyon (the deepest canyon worldwide) through the Cordillera Occidental to the Pacific Ocean.

Once in Cruz del Condor we are witnesses to a sight that can only be found in Peru: Condors (some with a span of more than 4 meter) use the thermal layers in the early morning and unexpectedly fly by at eye-level. Then we return to Arequipa.
