Back to Overview Peru

Introduction Puno

On the shores of the highest navigable lake in the world, at 3,820 mts above sea level, you can find the city of Puno with its 92,000 inhabitants. Puno is called the folkloristic capital of Peru, there are many parades where the people are dressed in traditional clothes and wear impressive masks.

The climate is a tipical altiplano climate. It is dry and cold (6°C) and at night temperatures of -10°C outside of the city are not onheard of. In Puno we have included a 2-day excursion in the standard roundtrip. You will visit the Uros islands, sleep on Amantani island and visit Taquile island.
