Iquitos 4, 5 & 6 day jungle programs

Introduction

Amazon JungleIn the Amazon lives the largest freshwater fish of the world called paiche (arapaima gigas) who can grow up to 2.50 m. This is also the only place where we can find the fresh water dolphin in the colors gray and pink. There are about 30,000 types of plants that grow in the Amazon shore, as well as 4,000 different species of butterflies and 2,000 different kinds of fish (more than those found in the Atlantic Ocean). Besides 4,000 species of birds, 150 species of reptiles and 361 species of mammals.

Itineraries

Itinerary 4 Day Jungle Program

Day 1

Welcome in the Iquitos airport and transport to the port.

  • Sail three hours by the Amazon River using a speed boat.
  • Warm welcome in Muyuna Lodge , accommodation in the bungalows.
  • Receive a notebook where you can identify the animals you will see later.
  • Lunch.
  • Brief hiking the surroundings to look for medicinal plants.
  • By canoe visit the Corrientillo lake and fish for piranhas while you enjoy a greenest sunset in your life.
  • Return to the lodge and have dinner.
  • Nocturnal ride to look for caimans (amazon alligators).

Day 2

Piranhas in the Amazon
  • Walk behind the lodge to Tahuayo river, main low forest, to observe animals in their own habitat (monkeys, sloth, insects). The rides could last 7 hours depending on the physical state of the passengers.
  • Lunch in the lodge.
  • In the evening, depending how long was the trek, visit to the lakes (Sapote, Corriente, Tipashiro, Bufeo, Huito, etc). Where we can find a great variety of ornamental fish, piranhas, sardines, etc.
  • Dinner at the lodge.
  • Take a ride for seeing nocturnal birds (owls, horned screamers, etc.).

Day 3

  • Return to the Amazon river and cross it to the other shore for walking to look the marked difference between low and high jungle.
  • Lunch outdoor.
  • Enjoy white sand beaches formed in the shore of the river (July to February).
  • Swim in the famous Amazon River.
  • Dinner at the lodge.

Day 4

Amazon Indian
  • Early in the morning (6:00 am) you will be waken up by the whistle of hundreds of birds, we will go out at that hour and see them.
  • Breakfast in the lodge.
  • Visit to San Juan de Yanayacu village where you will see the difference between the lifestyle of the jungle people and us. The visit is spontaneous. Nobody will make a "tourist show".
  • Go to the Moena lake to look for pink and gray fresh water dolphins.
  • Swim in the lagoon.
  • Return to the lodge for lunch.
  • Check in the note book all the animals you have seen during the trip.
  • Transport to Iquitos, by a speed boat.
  • Transport to the hotel and airport or only to the airport.

  • Lunch outdoor.
  • Swim in any lagoon at the midday.
  • Visit to San Juan de Yanayacu village where you will see the difference between the lifestyle of the jungle people and us.

Day 4

  • Return to the Amazon river and cross it to the other shore for walking to look the marked difference between low and high jungle.

Day 5

Medicinal Palm Tree
  • Early in the morning (6:00 am) you will be waken up by the whistle of hundreds of birds, we will go out at that hour and see them.
  • Take breakfast in the lodge.
  • Canoeing or walking to the "Pungal" to observe the hoatzin (famous bird, they look prehistoric because they have three hooks in their wings middle articulation).
  • Return to the lodge for have lunch.
  • Check in the note book all the animals you have seen during the trip.
  • Transport to Iquitos, by a speed boat.
  • Transport to the hotel and airport or only to the airport.
  • End of our services.

Day 5

  • Early in the morning, you will take the fish from the net you set last night, and receive with
  • surprise the immense variety of fish.
  • For breakfast, cook Iquitos typical dish that consist in banana and the fish enveloped by a leaf.
  • Short walk around the area.
  • Take lunch in the lodge.
  • Relax in the lodge, where you can play volley, cards, read, or to just spend time in the hammock.
  • Nocturnal canoe to look for frogs.

Day 6

The Amazon
  • Early in the morning (6:00 am) you will be waken up by the whistle of hundreds of birds, we will go out at that hour and see them.
  • Take breakfast in the lodge.
  • Canoeing or walking to the "Pungal" to observe the hoatzin (famous bird, they look prehistoric because they have three hooks in their wings middle articulation).
